Today I introduced a research project that students will begin thinking about over break. The project involves reasearching, writing a five paragraph essay, and preparing a creative presentation about a someone who lived in the middle ages. All students received the assignment sheet that gives an overview. Students will choose their topics tomorrow in class. I will also go over the presentation rubric tomorrow and the essay rubric on Tuesday. Monday we will spend some time in the media center researching our subjects.

Today we completed MME Content Review p. 363, #1-5.
We also watched a video about the Middle Ages. It was fun to see knights in action.
I also shared grades with students - these were not final grades, I just wanted students to do what they can to give their grades a boost this week. Next Wednesday, before Thankgiving , is the last day before the cardmarking.
Our test on chapter 13 will be next Monday.

For bell work today, we framed “feudalism.” We wrote down all the main ideas and gave some details and examples of terms related to feudalism. Consider this frame your notes for section 2.
We also took a pop quiz on sections 1 & 2.
Finally, we watched CNN student news and discussed whether or not the government should help out the auto industry and what the consequences would be if they didn’t.

Yikes!!! I forgot the retake tests at school! They are graded, but I will not be able to put them into parent connect until tomorrow during third hour.
Today we completed presentations from chapter 13, sections 1 and 2. Most of you did really well, but remember you must be prepared when it is time to present - that means looking over the work before you are to present. These grades will be in parent connect tomorrow as well.
For bell work we made a list of characteristics that would describe Charlemagne. Interesting guy, bad temper!

Veteran’s Day!
We spent a little time discussing Veteran’s Day and how it is different from Memorial Day.
We also worked in groups today to create outlines on parts of chapter 13, sections 1 and 2. Students were randomly chosen to present. The assignment was worth 10 minutes and it will be summative assessment.
Homework: Make sure you complete your notes on Charlemagne - we will get to this tomorrow. Also, read ch. 13, section 1 and complete the guided reading.
Don’t forget to bring something to read tomorrow!

We went over our tests from chapter 12. Retakes will be on Wednesday after school - no exceptions. Also, you must not have any missing assignments from chapter 12 in order to qualify for a retake.
Intro to chapter 13 - Pg. 340 and 342 - answer questions. We discussed what it would be like to be a peasant during the middle ages. We decided we would feel secure in having the basic necessities, but be limited in terms of freedom.
Assignment: Create a dual entry journal for “Charlemagne” reading selection. Students are to have two columns “In the text” and “In my head.” As students read the selection they should react to the text with statements, questions, or anything that may come to mind. They identify the text with a paragraph number and words or phrases. We will go over it tomorrow.

Bell work today was to write your feelings about the election. It sounds like many of us were very nervous! We had a great discussion about the results.
We began creating a frame for our test on Friday. We framed sections 1-4 from chapter 12. We wrote down the main ideas that we should be reviewed for the test. Please remember to bring a #2 pencil!
Homework tonight is to look over the information on the frame, skim through section 5 using the guided reading form, and complete the chapter 12 vocabulary handout. We will correct these tomorrow.
