Dearborn Public Schools Early Childhood programs have served the community for over 25 years. We continually survey the needs of families in our community to provide programs that meet their ever-growing needs.

We are very proud of all the early childhood programs that are offered by the Early Childhood Community Education department.

The Childcare programs are available at many elementary school locations throughout the city. We have childcare programs for toddlers through school-age children. The All-Day Childcare program is available at Lindbergh and Henry Ford Community College Child Development Center for children ages 2 years and 9 months and older. The Snow School All-Day Childcare program accepts toddlers that are 18 months and older.

These programs allow children to explore a variety of materials and activities to foster their development socially, cognitively, emotionally, and physically. Activities include open-ended art activities, small and large muscle development, story time, pre-math and science skills, literacy, story time and much more.

School-age children can attend our Kid’s Club programs at DuVall, Haigh, Howard, Lindbergh, Snow and Whitmore-Bolles. We offer the Kid’s Club program at Long and Nowlin Schools on a limited basis. In this program children are engaged in creativity, problem-solving, socializing, physical activities, and creative group process. The Kid’s Club recreates a “neighborhood” for children to have fun and explore before and after school. Children are engaged in arts and crafts, brainteasers, sewing, woodworking, reading, board games, team sports, dramatic play, music and movement, and even a quiet place to complete homework.

In the summer months, we offer the Summer Adventure Club program which features fun summer activities along with math and literacy skills and exciting field trips.

For more than two decades, the Developmental Preschool has provided our community with one of the finest preschool programs. These preschool programs are educationally based, developmentally appropriate, and designed especially for three and four year old children. Teachers are highly qualified, and the developmental curriculum and teaching strategies are ideal for young children. A stress-free learning environment provides many new and exciting opportunities in which children learn. It offers preschool students a growth-filled experience and nurtures a zest for future learning. Within the Developmental Preschool department, we offer Little Scholars Preschool for children who are four years old. The program is offered three days per week for 2 ½ hours. It provides an environment that is needed for a successful beginning. It emphasizes math skills, science, and literacy as well as socialization necessary before starting kindergarten. Our youngest learners and a parent or adult can join in the fun in the Wee Scholars Preschool. In this introductory program, the toddler and parent participate in a variety of activities such as sensory, social games, music, movement, and take-home activities. This one hour program meets once per week for six week sessions, each focused on a theme such as shapes, colors, songs or nursery rhymes.

Our Montessori Preschool program is located at Howe School. This academic program focuses on the whole child; socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. The Montessori Method features a prepared environment which involves many materials used independently. The teachers act as the facilitators and the children are active learners.

Our partnership location is the Henry Ford Community College Child Development Center, located at 5101 Evergreen Road, right on the campus of Henry Ford Community College. Here we offer hourly daytime and evening childcare, and Developmental Preschool.

All of our programs feature low, competitive tuition rates and highly qualified staff that meet the strict licensing requirements by the State of Michigan Child Care Licensing Department. For information on any of our programs, please call our main office at 313 317-6527.
