I would like to share with you some photos my neighbor took across the street from my house.  As many of you know I live between Brighton and Ann Arbor, Michigan.  I live on a dirt road with lots of trees  and small ponds in the area.  Last year my neighbor spotted a bald eagle in the area and guess what? The eagle came back this year! My neighbor wanted to attract the  eagle back to the area so he could take some pictures. He placed a dead deer he found by the side of the road and he put the deer near the pond across the street from my house.  He set up a camera and  placed a remote on the camera and waited to see if the eagle would come for some food. Sure enough the eagle came to the site and my neighbor was able to take these photos.

I was so excited to show the kids these photos of the bald eagle that I could not let this learning opportunity slip by today.  In class we made a KWL Chart(KWL stands for – What you know – What you want to know – What you learned).

These were some of the ideas the children came up with today.

Eagles can catch fish with their sharp claws. How far can bald eagles see?
Eagles have good hearing to help them catch their prey Are they friendly?
People at Greenfield Village can see bald eagles How did the bald eagle become the American Symbol?
The bald eagle is the symbol of America Do bald eagles live in families? Bald eagles share raising their young with the male and the felmale birds.

The children answered some questions on a report form called, Research of a Bird and after answering the questions they drew pictures of a bald eagle.   Here are some pictures some of the children drew today.
