This is the start of a new school year.  We will be performing on the football field before the games ( playing The Star Spangled Banner & FHS fight song) and at 1/2 time (up to 4 songs).  We are going to do some basic letter forming routines which will form the letters “F, H and S”.  More to come as I get the info.

WE DIDN’T GET ENOUGH STUDENTS ENROLLED IN ORCHESTRA SO IT HAS BEEN CUT AS A CLASS.  STRING PLAYERS THAT SIGN UP WILL BE PLACED IN BAND AND SUPPORT THE WIND INSTRUMENTS IN THE FOLLOWING WAY:

VIOLINS-FLUTE & CLARINET & BELL PARTS.

VIOLAS-CLARINETS & TRUMPETS

CELLOS-ALL SAXOPHONES AND TROMBONES

BASSES-LOW BRASS PARTS

FLAG & COLOR GUARD ON THE FIELD PLAYING INSTRUMENTS AT THE SCHOOL CONCERT.

WE HAVE A LOT OF THINGS TO DO IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.  I BELIEVE WE WILL BE PERFORMING AT THE HENRY FORD ESTATE TWICE THIS FALL AND WINTER.  FIRST ON SAT. SEPT.  27TH  (TIME TO BE ANNOUNCED).  ALSO IN DECEMBER FOR THE SANTA’S WORKSHOP EVENT.  OUR CONCERT AT SCHOOL WILL BE THE FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER (TIME & DAY YET TO BE DECIDED)

All Beginners Read This

NO MATTER WHAT INSTRUMENT YOU PLAY IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER YOU HAVE CERTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES THAT YOU MUST FOLLOW THROUGH WITH IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE.

#1 YOU SHOULD COME EITHER BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH [OR MORE IF NECCESSARY] FOR HELP TO GET UP TO SPEED ON WHAT YOU’RE SUPPOSSED TO KNOW.  I’M HERE BEFORE SCHOOL EVERYDAY AND AFTER SCHOOL TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY.  I’M HERE TO HELP YOU.  PLEASE COME FOR HELP IF YOU HAVE ANYTHING YOU’RE NOT SURE ABOUT.

#2 YOU HAVE TO COME TO ALL PERFORMANCES [EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT PLAYING ON STAGE] TO SUPPORT THE REST OF THE KIDS AND TO LEARN WHAT AN AUDIENCE MEMBER IS SUPPOSSED TO ACT LIKE WHILE LISTENING TO A CONCERT.

#3 GET EXTRA CREDIT BY WRITING OUT DEFINITIONS OF MUSICAL TERMS AND NOTES, WRITING TYPE 3 PAPERS, OR JUST PRACTICING BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL FOR 15 MINUTES.

#4 INITILLAY YOU NEED TO IDENTIFY THE FIRST NOTE OF EVERY MEASURE AND THEN PLAY IT ON YOUR INSTRUMENT.  YOU CAN TAKE AS MUCH TIME AS IT TAKES FOR YOU TO DO IT AS LONG AS YOU KNOW THAT YOU’RE DOING IT RIGHT.  DON’T TRY TO PLAY FAST JUST PLAY CORRECTLY AND ACCURATELY.  PERCUSSIONISTS HAVE TO SAY THE COUNTING FOR THE WHOLE SONG AS SLOW AS THEY NEED TO TO MAKE SURE THEY’RE DOING IT CORRECTLY.

#4a.  There is a link on my website under “More Music Links” that has a link to “PracticeSpot.com”  You can download up to 21 practice sheets for 1/4 notes and 1/8th notes in “Ryhthm Gym” also on the “More Music Links” page is “Music Theory.net” which is a good site to learn the basics of music.

#5 NEXT TRY TO SAY, THEN PLAY, THE FIRST NOTE OF EVERY MEASURE ALONG WITH THE MP3 FILES ON THE MUSIC WEBSITE WHILE LOOKING AT YOUR MUSIC.  IF YOU DO NOT HAVE INTERNET ACCESS I CAN MAKE YOU A CD TO TAKE HOME AND PRACTICE WITH.  BUT YOU HAVE TO MAKE THE EFFORT TO ASK ME TO MAKE THE CD.  IF YOU DON’T ASK I WILL NOT KNOW.  NO INTERNET ACCESS IS NOT A VALID EXCUSE TO USE FOR NOT PRACTICING.

#6 FINALLY YOU SHOULD TRY TO PLAY ALL THE NOTES FIRST AT A SLOW SPEED THEN AT THE SPEED ON THE WEBSITE.  BY DOING THIS FOR EVERY NEW SONG YOU WILL LEARN WHAT I WANT YOU TO KNOW AS QUICKLY AS YOU’RE WILLING TO WORK ON IT WITHOUT MAKING EXCUSES.  YOU WILL SUCCEED AND EVERYONE WILL BE ABLE TO TELL EASILY THAT YOU CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU DO AND WHAT WE SOUND LIKE.  AT THAT POINT YOU WON’T MAKE THE REST OF US SOUND BAD IF YOU PERFORM ON STAGE WITH US.

TO BE THE ABSOLUTE MOST ON TOP OF WHAT YOU SHOULD DO FOLLOW THE LINK TO THE LEARNING TARGETS FOR YOUR INSTRUMENT GROUP [EITHER STRINGS OR BAND] FOUND AT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THIS PAGE JUST BELOW THE BLOGROLL AREA.  START WITH 1.1 THEN PRINT IT OUT .  I WILL SIGN OFF ON EACH STEP YOU PASS.  WHEN YOU FINISH 1.1 MOVE ON TO 1.2 AND SO ON AS FAR AS YOU CAN GO.
