…BRING IN YOUR FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIPS AND MONEY! DUE TOMORROW!
Today we reinforced our knowledge of the 5 major world religions by completing a “Stay and Stray” activity using sections 26-3 and 26-4 as our guide. The basic setup of the Stay and Stray activity is as follows:
Students are numbered and broken up into multiple groups. The students write down info from a text section on chart paper; the group discusses the info. The teacher chooses one person from each group to “stay” at the group with the chart paper. All others “stray” to the other grouping areas to learn from the person who “stayed” at the other groups. Any given student can be asked to “stay,” thus all students have to pay attention and stay engaged.
The activity went ver well in most classes. So need to work a bit harder next time! Always remember: “You remember 5% of what you hear, 10% of what you see, 25% of what you read, and 100% of what you teach.”

Today we discussed the CULTURE of Southeast Asia. We discussed Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, but mostly the tiny kingdom on Brunei and their vast oil wealth. Above you see the Sultan Omar Ali Saiffudin Mosque, the 1,788 room palace/place of worship. We checked over yesterdays’ Southeast Asia “Rich in Culture” activity and discussed the above region. All the above info can be found in Chapter 26 section 2, if interested in reinforcing what you learned!
No homework tonight!

Today we reinforced our lessons on the One-Child Policy and the culture of East Asia by checking the classwork/homework from the last two days. As we checked the activities we discussed them.
We ended our class by practicing the essay question that will be on the WORLD RELIGION ASSESSMENT: Describe the similarities and differences between Hinduism and Buddhism. Give examples and use supporting details.
***Have a great weekend studying for your WORLD RELIGION ASSESSMENT on Tuesday 11/18!***

Today we discussed China’s One-Child Policy. As a whole group we read an article about One-Child Policy and had a wonderful class discussion. The policy is highly controversial but important to understand. Our discussion consisted of the positive and negative effects. We debated the human rights aspects: sex-selective abortion, abandoned/orphaned/adopted children, and infanticide. We discussed the “One-Two-Four” and the “Little Emperor” issue.
As we read, students highlighted important information that would help them to answer questions.
After that, each student was responsible to answer 12 QAR question regarding the policy. Due tomorrow!
***DON’T FORGET TO STUDY FOR THE WORLD RELIGION ASSESSMENT ON 11/18***

***DON’T FORGET TO STUDY FOR THE WORLD RELIGIONS ASSESSMENT ON 11/18***
Our discussion today centered around the cultures of China, Korea, and Japan. We read through section 26-1 as a WHOLE CLASS, discussing key points as we came across them. We tended to focus on communist China because that strikes a cord with middle school-aged kids.
HOMEWORK: Today’s assignment is called Asia: Rich in Culture. It will be checked in tomorrow for a homework grade. The 3 questions about the One-Child Policy can wait until tomorrow!
There is less than 2 weeks until the end of the 2nd marking period. Don’t slip! Your learning depends on it!!!!!!

Today our entire team watched the film, Where the Red Fern Grows. All students have read the book and I think it was nice for them to make a comparison from book to film!
Don’t forget to study for the WORLD RELIGIONS TEST 11/18!
Enjoy your half day!

ASSESSMENT ALERT: WORLD RELIGIONS ASSESSMENT WILL TAKE PLACE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18th. ALL STUDENTS HAVE A STUDY GUIDE TO STUDY FROM!
Today we furthered our discussion of the 5 major world religions. We went over the religions comparison charts. At this point all students should have the same information on their charts to study from for the WORLD RELIGIONS ASSESSMENT on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18th.
Your homework is to study your Religions Chart Study Guide for 20-30 minutes a day!
Have a peaceful evening!

Today we discussed three of the five major religions of the world: Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. We watched a short video about all three religions, as told by children middle school-aged. Following the videos we discussed the new material with each other.
For our next activity, each student received a Islam, Judaism, and Christianity comparison chart. The chart asked for information such as supreme being, when founded, symbols, etc. Then each student received a Hinduism/Buddhism reading. Their job was to read the information and fill in the chart. The goal is to see how they are alike and how they are different!
Your homework is to get your test signed and return it on Monday!
Have a wonderful weekend!!!!!!!!
