The 4th & 5th grade soccer lessons require the students to wear shin guards and a lot of the straps are worn out. The solutions include wearing tall socks to hold them in place or bring their own shin guards. We will finish soccer on Oct. 31st and the students will then do their fall fitness tests. Weather permitting, we will spend the weeks of Nov. 10th and Nov. 17th practicing football skills, before staying indoors for the winter. Indoor tennis is a new unit that we will start the last week of Nov. and continue until Christmas break.
Welcome back to school. Since some students are observing a fast for Ramadan, our P.E. classes will work on cooperation games for the first 3 weeks. Soccer lessons will begin in October.
Beginning the week of 4/14, the 4th & 5th graders will prepare to retake the fitness tests and those interested will try to also score high enough to qualify for the President’s Fitness Award.
Our final sport for this school year is T-ball (K-3rd) and softball (4th-5th). Any 4th or 5th grader who owns a softball mit should bring it to class starting the week of 4/28.
The classes are working on jumping rope using short ropes to jump alone and with a partner and long ropes to twirl with a partner for another jumper. The 4th & 5th graders also work on twirling and jumping double dutch.
The students participating in Jump for Heart collected $1,308 this year to donate to the American Heart Association. How wonderful!
This 3rd semester, the students are practicing volleyball and the 5th grade teams are competing to win the most matches and play in the volleyball game against the teachers on Friday, 3/14.
After the Easter break, we will begin working on jump rope skills. Also, I have scheduled the celebration night for Jump Rope for Heart for Wednesday, April 9th, for all the students who collect donations and their families.
Happy New Year! Our classes are practicing basketball and work on dribbling, passing, shooting and the 4th & 5th graders play boys -vs- boys and girls -vs- girls games in 3 minute rotations.
Mr. St.Amand, myself and the students are having fun practicing gymnastics in class. We have worked on balancing, tumbling, stretching, strengthening exercises, bar, vault & pommell horses, rope and balance beam. The 4th & 5th graders are using a task checklist to keep track of the skills that they can perform and they are studying for the quiz on the benefits of physical activity.
Fitness Tests for 4th-5th graders
The week of 10/22-10/26 was the period in which the 4th & 5th graders completed their 13 - 15 minute jog/walk test, the 1-minute sit up test, the push up test and the sit-n-reach flexibility tests.
Welcome to my new Blog
This year our class will have Mr. St. Amand as a student teacher until the December break. Please join me in welcoming him to our school.
