Book Orders, Open House Info

Posted on September 4, 2008

Our first book order was sent home this week.  If you choose to order books for your child, please send their money and order form in by September 24th.  You can also order books online, which I strongly suggest.  To order online, go to:

www.scholastic.com/parentordering

Our class user name is: mcshaneclass

Our password is: BookOrder

The books will be delivered to Long School for me to hand out to the children.  Please let me know if you have any questions concerning this.

Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, September 9th.  Beginning at 6:00, Mr. Pantaleo will be giving a Long School website demonstration in the gym.  Beginning at 6:30, you are welcome to visit the classrooms.  Open House ends at 7:30.  I look forward to seeing everyone there!

We have been very busy over the last two days.  Everyone is adjusting to full day school.  It has been so warm in our classroom, that I think I can speak for us all when I say that I welcome the cooler weather.  The children are encouraged to bring in a water bottle to drink from at their desk.  Today the children were introduced to their math journals.  We also played the Number Line Game.  You can expect to see homework starting on Monday.  The children should also be taking home their colored folders every afternoon and bringing them back the next day.  If you have any questions regarding our routines, don’t hesitate to ask.

Welcome to Room 22!

I hope everyone had a wonderful day today.  The first few days of school can be a little scary for a new first grader.  This morning we went through some of our classroom routines, had some time to play with the other classes outside, took a tour of the school, and just got to know each other a little better.  I typically spend the first week of school working on routines and getting the children comfortable with each other, as well as myself.  I will be sending home a letter to parents on Wednesday (tomorrow) that will discuss what to expect this school year.  Today the children brought home their homework folder, which contains a homework assignment for you, the parent.  I’m asking each parent to write a letter about their child.  The details are listed in the packet.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  I do respond to phone calls, but email works best for me!  I look forward to a fun and exciting year with your children.  Oh, and don’t be afraid to leave a post on our blog.  I welcome your feedback!  Have a great first week of first grade…

What a Great Year It’s Been!

Posted on June 10, 2008

The school year has come to an end.  I still can’t believe that summer vacation has begun!  I hope everyone has a fun and relaxing summer.  These last few weeks have been so busy.  Report cards were sent home on Tuesday, along with some suggestions for activities for the summer.  The most important thing you can do this summer is READ READ READ.  Kids-let me know what books you are reading over the summer.  I would love to hear about them!

Tuesday was our last day.  I walked into our classroom Tuesday morning, and found out a pipe in the boys bathroom had burst.  It had flooded my room Monday night, but had been cleaned up by the time school started Tuesday.  We suffered some water damage- a few lost books and my carpet.  Everyone did a great job keeping busy while I finished cleaning everything up.  It just shows what great independent workers everyone in our learning community has become.   Great job kids!

Don’t forget to check http://snapshots.dearbornschools.org.  I still have some so many photos to add to this site, but hope to get everything on there over the next two weeks.  Let me know what you think.  I plan on checking my email weekly.  Kids- let me know how your summer is going!  Have a safe and happy vacation!!!

Picnic this Tuesday

Posted on June 2, 2008

I am still need permission slips from some of the children for Tuesday’s picnic. Please see that they turn those in as soon as possible. We will be heading over to Crowley Park around 12:00, and will return to Long at 2:00. If you would like to join us, please do so. The children will need to bring a sack lunch (no glass please). Lets hope for nice weather!

Just another reminder to check out School Shots. I still have quite a few photos to add to our site. I will let you know when I have gotten them all on there. Last year I made CDs for all the families with pictures of their child that I had taken throughout the year. This year I will be uploading these pictures to School Shots. You can then go through and download the pictures you would like to keep. Please let me know if you have any problems with site so we can get these fixed before the fall.

Eight School Days Left!

Posted on May 29, 2008

It is hard to believe that this school year is coming to a close! I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather and end of the year activities. It has been so long since I have posted anything, I hope someone is reading this!

We have finally finished the last of our assessments. This year we had to give two final math assessments, a writing assessment, a reading constructed response assessment, and complete the rest of our DRAs (which is another form of reading assessment). This has kept us very busy. Over the next week we will be finishing up our anthologies, which will be sent home for the summer.

Our picnic will be Tuesday, June 3rd. I will send home more information Friday. You are welcome to attend. The picnic will be at Crowley Park.

And finally…..be sure to check out School Shots. School Shots is a new site for teachers to post pictures. It works much like Snapfish or Flicker. You can get on there and download or order prints. We are one of the first classes to use it, so if you have any problems with the site, we would appreciate it if you would let us know. This site will be up and running for the district this fall, so we would like to fix any problems before that time. As always, I welcome your feedback.
