Open House

September 4th, 2008

Snow School will have its Open House on Tuesday, September 9th.  From 5:30-6:00, we will have a parent meeting in the classroom to discuss our curriculum and grade level expectations.  From 6:00-6:30, you’ll be able to tour the school and meet your child’s special area teachers.  From 6:30-7:00, the PTA will be holding a bake sale.  Please stop by and pick up some tasty treats.  You’ll also be helping our school at the same time.  I look forward to seeing all of you on Tuesday! :)

Are you ready?

August 20th, 2008

Another summer has just flown by and the school year is just two weeks away!  I have been in school preparing our classroom.  Next week, the teachers officially report back for professional development meetings.  I would encourage you to visit the Dearborn Public Schools website for the updated school calendar as well as additional information about the upcoming school year.  Please also check back next week to this page for more information about our kindergarten!

Kindergarten Picnic

June 5th, 2008

Our picnic is scheduled for Monday, June 9th.  Both the AM and PM classes should report at the start of the day at 8:35.  We will be practicing our performance and getting a few last minute details worked out.

Families should plan to meet us in the gym at 11:00.

We will head outside to picnic following the children’s perfomance.  It should be a nice family affair with 98 family members + the 54 kindergarteners in attendance! :)

Please remember your picnic blankets and/or chairs.  Don’t forget the sunscreen as well!

Our picnic will end at 2:00.  At that time, you may take your children home with you.  (The AM still has class on Tuesday morning.)

Please feel free to speak with me if you have any questions or concerns.  Thank you!

Summer Reading

May 30th, 2008

One piece of research shows that children should read a minimum of 6 books over the summer to retain newly learned skills.  You can help your child keep pace by reading over the summer.  One way would be to join the Dearborn Public Libraries Summer Reading Program.  It is free and offers the children small prizes for meeting reading goals.

If you’re wondering which books to select, Mrs. Lemenu, our media specialist, has put some book lists on her blog page.  You can find it by clicking on Mrs. Lemenu’s name on the right side.

Happy Reading!

Kindergarten Picnic

May 28th, 2008

In your parent pockets today (5-28-08), you’ll find information about our Kindergarten Picnic.  This is different than the Snow School Picnic.

The Kindergarten Picnic will be for kindergarteners and their families.  It will be a celebration of all we’ve learned this year and the friendships we’ve made.  The children are learning a song and a poem to perform for all of you.  They’re also working on telling you about their kindergarten experience from A to Z.

Our presentation will begin at 11:00 on Monday, June 9th, in the gym.  Afterwards, the children will show you some of their work in the classrooms and then we’ll enjoy the picnic outside on the kindergarten playground.  Remember blankets and chairs to sit on! :)

Each family is asked to sign up for a dish or beverage to share.  Sign ups sheets are in the classroom on the volunteer clipboard.

Last year’s picnic was a great success!  Let’s hope the weather cooperates and we have an enjoyable time again this year! :)

HELP!

May 19th, 2008

I just received our final district math assessments.  There are 39 questions for each child to answer and answer sheets that will need to be “bubbled” in when the children have completed their tests.  The tests must be completed by THURSDAY!!!!
I could REALLY use some parents to help administer and bubble the answer sheets.  If you’re available, please plan to stay when you drop off your child.  If you have a younger child, he/she is also welcome to stay so that we can complete our assessments.  Thank you in advance for any time you can spend with us.  I greatly appreciate the assistance. :)

Library books

May 19th, 2008

Beginning this week, children will no longer be checking out books from the library.  We will return our books on our designated days.

Any child with an overdue book will receive a notice.  Please check your home for the book.  If it cannot be found, you will need to pay the amount shown on the notice to have the book replaced.
