News of the Week
Star of the Week
Thank you Ethan! You were a wonderful star. Congratulations to Ella Cayton. You are our new star of the week.
Book It
Last week, I sent home a new Pizza Hut Book It reading log. The students that turned in reading logs for the month of October received Pizza Hut coupons. Keep reading with your child at home.
Reading
We are working on Daily Five C.A.F.E. strategies as a class and individually. (C.A.F.E. is Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Extending Vocabulary.)
We are working on beginning sounds and using pictures for cues. Students have individualized reading strategies that they are working on. Strategies will change as your child develops as a reader.
Writing
We write in Writer’s Workshop every day. We continue to work on:
- a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence
- proper spacing between words
- punctuation at the end of a sentence
Math
We have been working on tricky teen’s and writing our teen numbers. Students know that 11,12,13 and 15 are tricky, and we have to take a mental picture of these numbers in our heads. Have your child practice writing numbers 1-20. We also have been practicing counting by 5′s, 10′s and 100′s and writing our 5′s and 10′s. We have learned about coins and how they are different and what they are worth. We have also started counting coins during calendar.
November Family Homework Project
You will find a homework project in your child’s blue folder on Monday. Each student is to disguise the turkey handout and write a few sentences about his disguise, and how he manages to escape! Ideas include a snowman, a penguin, a princess, or a clown. Think outside the box and get creative. Projects are due Monday, November 21. If you would like to turn them in earlier that would be fine.
Book Fair
Thank-you to parents who purchased books for our classroom at the Book Fair. Greatly appreciated!!!
