Research Project Part 1
Topic:_______________________________________
Name:___________________________________
Due Date: 2/28/12______________
Directions:
For this project you will be given a topic from either The Great Depression or the Civil Rights Movement. You will be responsible for researching that topic using multiple sources. We will spend one day in the Media Center(2/15/12) as a class, but the rest of the research will be done on your own time. The information that you find will be presented to the class and then displayed on a Flow Map. You will be graded not only on MLA conventions, but also on the accuracy and validity of your research. We will spend one day in class reviewing MLA format. The rubric(s) for this project can be found on the back of this page.
Requirements:
- You must use at least 3 sources. One book, one periodical, one online source, For extra credit one can be other of your choosing.
- You must compile a works cited page of these sources.
- If there is a written component you must use proper parenthetical citations.
- You must present your information in ONE of the following ways:
- A poster
- A PowerPoint(minimum of 12 slides)
- A speech(
- A formal paper(2-3 pages)
- A newspaper(minimum of 3 sections with at least 4 articles for each section)
- A news broadcast(no less than 2 minutes and no more than 5 minutes)
Remember:
When doing research you want to use reliable and vetted sources. Wikipedia is not a reliable source!!!! Therefore you cannot use it! The first hit that pops up on Google is not always the most reliable source. Use your common sense and prior knowledge to help you sift information. Always check the origins of the source. Where it comes from is just as important as what it says.
