Week of May 19, 2008

  • There are no new spelling words for the rest of the year.  We will be reviewing words throughout our writing.  This means that there will not be any more formal tests on Fridays.
  • As of today, there are only 14 days left until our May homework is due.  Please don’t wait until the last minute to start this project.  Remember to pick only 6 sentence starters and write at least 3-4 sentences for each one. 
  • It is Michigan week and we are working on a packet of information that deals with our great state.  They already have been asking interesting questions.
  • I hope everyone has a great week and remember there is no school on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day.

Week of May 12, 2008

  • Our spelling words this week are: cow, how, town, mouse, mouth, out, all, yes, pan, and it.
  • The test will be Friday, May 16.
  • Book orders are due by Wednesday, May 13.  This will be the last order this year.
  • Some of our class was pictured on Sunday’s front page of the Dearborn Press & Guide for our clean up parade.  If you didn’t see it, please come in and see it.  They all did a great job!
  • I hope everyone is working on their May homework.  We counted today (5-13-08) and there are only 20 days left until it’s due.  If you have any questions about it, please come and see me.

Week of April 28, 2008

  • The spelling words this week are:  born, fork, cork, horn, corn, pork, of, am, mom, and six.
  • The spelling test will be Friday, May 2, 2008.
  • Our field trip to the Music Hall in Detroit to see “Seussical” is Thursday, May 1, 2008.  We will eat a packed lunch at school around 11:00 a.m. and leave around 11:30 a.m. on a Dearborn Public School bus.  The performance is 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.  We will arrive back at school around 2:00 p.m. to 2:20 p.m.  Thank you to all the families for having the permission slips and money returned on time.
  • Also on Thursday, May 1, 2008 I will be giving them a writing assignment for the whole month of May.  It will be returned to me on Monday, June 2, 2008.  More details to follow.

Week of April 21, 2008

  • I apologize for not having anything on my blog for the last two weeks.
  • The spelling words this week are:  arm, art, barn, cart, harm, yarn, into, sat, boy, and was.
  • The spelling test will be Friday, April 25.
  • Our field trip to the Music Hall to see “Seussical” in Detroit is set for Thursday, May 1, 2008.  Permission slips and information was sent home last week.  The cost is $7.00.  (Please have exact change.)  The money and permission slip is due by Friday, April 25.  We will be traveling by Dearborn Public School bus.  If you have any questions, please call me, see me, or email me.
  • Once again this Friday, April 25 there will be a snow cone sale after school.  $1.00 a snow cone.  All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

Week of March 31, 2008

  • This weeks spelling words are:  boat, coat, go, no, low, row, good, home, up, and be.
  • The test will be Friday, April 4.
  • Thank you to all our special guest readers that took time out of their busy schedules to read to our class.  I know the children loved it and they learned that reading is not only at school but with us forever.
  • The third report card marking will end this Friday, April 4 and report cards will be distributed on Thursday, April 10.  Don’t forget to sign the brown envelope and return it.  The report card is yours to keep.
  • Lastly, April Home Reading Logs will be due on Wednesday, April 30.  Have your child mark the calendar so that they don’t forget!  Remember to read at least 6 or more books, magazines, newspapers, etc.
  • Have a super week and think spring!!!

Week of March 10, 2008

  • The spelling words this week are:  bumpy, penny, puppy, sandy, funny, bunny, this, can, and, see.
  • The spelling test will be Friday, March 14.
  • Don’t forget Tuesday, March 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:oo p.m. is Family Literacy Night.  Mayor O’Reilley of Dearborn will be reading to us that night.
  • The Scholastic Book Fair is going on this week.  We will preview the book fair Tuesday, March 11 at 8:50 a.m. and buy books on Thursday, March 13 at 9:00 a.m.-9:50 a.m.  It will also be open at Family Literacy Night.
  • Friday, March 14 is dress up as your favorite book character.  Students can wear the costume all day.  Some ideas are: any of Dr. Seuss’ characters, Clifford, Curious George and the man with the yellow hat, and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie books.
  • If you are still interested in reading to our class, please come and see me.
  • Have a great Spring Break!   No school March 17-March 24, 2008.  School resumes on Tuesday, March 25, 2008.

Week of March 3, 2008

  • The spelling words for the week are:  beak, feed, keep, me, seat, we, will, is, dog, and old.
  • The spelling test will be Friday, March 7.
  • March is Reading Month!  I sent home a yellow note Monday about inviting parents, grandparents, and any other family members that would be interested in reading to our class.  Please write me a note, email me, come in and see me, or phone me about a day and time that would be good for you.  The note had specific days and times.  You can read a picture book, tell a story, or I can pick out a book for you.  Let me know.
  • Scholastic Book Fair is next week.
  • Literacy Night is March 11.

Week of February 25

  • The spelling words this week are:  day, mail, play, rain, chain, way, had, rat, book, and you.  The test is Friday, Feb. 29.

  • Also due on Friday, February 29 is February’s Home Reading Log.  You must read at least 6 books for the month.  We talked in class that having someone read the newspaper or a magazine would count on the Home Reading Log.  It’s all types of reading!

  • Long’s Family Fun Night is Friday, Feb. 29 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. 

  • Next month will be March is Reading Month with lots of fun activities planned.  The Scholastic Book Fair will also be taking place.

  • Thanks to all the students and families that volunteered to bring in 100 items for the 100th day of school.  The kids had fun.  I’ll be trying to post pictures soon.

Week of February 18, 2008

  • I hope everyone had a super mid-winter break.  This week we will be “catching up” on all the subject areas.
  • The spelling words are review words.  They are: can, sit, get, with, take, string, we, come, so, and for.  The spelling test will be on Friday, February 22.
  • This Tuesday, February 19 will be our valentine party in the afternoon.  We will be passing out valentine cards and eating some treats.
  • This Friday, February 22 will be the 100th day of school (as long as there isn’t any bad weather). Your child may bring in any items of 100.  This is voluntary.  Such items as 100 pennies, 100 paper clips, 100 life savers, etc… Please remember to keep it simple.  We will be celebrating it all day.
