Computer Applications Class

Class Description:

A computer class is a graduation requirement by the Dearborn Public Schools as well as the State of Michigan. This class can fulfill the requirement if passed with a score of 75% or better. In this twenty week class, students will:

learn how to follow step by step directions

work at increasing your reading, writing, and proofreading skills

become acquainted with technology vocabulary

review your keyboarding skills

learn how to use a word processing program

learn how to proofread your work

learn how to use a spreadsheet program

learn how to use a multimedia, presentation program

consider how technology relates to ethics.

Grading:

Grades are based on 20% formative (most assignments) and 80% summative (some assignments & tests).

Assignments and iLearn:

This is a self-paced class with all assignments on iLearn through the Dearborn Public Schools website. These assignments are completed during school using the computers in Room 43. Assignments, both formative and summative, are usually worth 20 points while tests are worth between 80 – 100 points. Students can access iLearn at home through the Dearborn Public Schools website at http://ilearn.dearbornschools.org . Students use their student number for the user name and password to log in. Flash drives are NOT permitted in the Computer Lab.

The classroom rules for students are:

· To act in a respectful and courteous way towards the computer teacher, the substitute and classmates.

· To be on time for class.

· To handle the computer equipment in this computer lab with respect.

· To have no gum, candy, food, drinks, or flash drives as they are not allowed in this computer lab.

· To not abuse Internet privileges and only go where directed to go on the Internet or Internet privileges will be lost.

The consequences for failure to follow any of the above classroom rules could involve one or more of the following actions:

· a telephone call home to parents

· a before school detention

· a referral to the office
