I cannot say enough good things about Kaltura. Their product is simply amazing. I come from a video background and the built in video editing features of Kaltura rocks! Creating videos has certainly come ALONG WAY from the days of the Sony RM-440 videotape editing days. When I look at Kaltura’s product I see great opportunity for the educational community. Teachers can record messages for students. Students can work collaboratively to create a video on topics all from the website with no special video software. Just plugin a webcam or grab a video from the web to begin editing and putting together a video.
Kaltura Community Edition v3.0 is a HUGE step forward from the days of version 1. They now offer a very robust and feature rich backend for the users as well as administrators. Whether you host it yourself or pay their reasonable fee for the hosted service, the Kaltura product is outstanding and has many applications for education.

Thanks Lisa. I had been using Kaltura V1 and it worked pretty well but it was really lacking administration controls. That has all been addressed with Kaltura V3. It is truly an amazing piece of software! Even the installer is great. It goes through and checks your server to ensure you are not going to be disappointed by installing it and not getting full functionality because the server doesn’t have all the proper components running.
