So I was reading this article about Piwik Website analytics from WPMU.org and it inspired me to install and set it up for our WPMU/Buddypress website for teachers. It works really well with a Multisite setup and the nicest part is that it is all integrated and displays nicely in the dashboard.
Unlike other WordPress Stat plugins, Piwik can run on any server and doesn’t bog down your WordPress database collecting all the page hits etc.
The Piwik install is VERY VERY easy. It was easier than installing WordPress! The plugin for Piwik WordPress is designed for a single site, but with a simple modification of a single line of code, you will have this plugin collecting data for each site in your Multisite setup. Each teacher in our blog portal only sees their site stats and they are accessible directly from the dashboard without having to login to any additional service as you would with Google Analytics.
We just turned on Piwik this past Saturday and are using it as a pilot to make sure it will work on our setup.

Very cool! Glad the article was helpful to you
Thanks Sarah. I really like your articles as they point out some great plugins and features. I’m a fan! Your Piwik article came around at just the right time as I had several teachers asking for website stats. Turns out that Piwik was exactly what I was looking for since I didn’t want to collect web stats on the same server as the blogs. Thanks again!
If I say that this blog is a mine of information, I definitely mean it.
