6th grade:

Today students checked in the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs of thier Fear Essays(Writing From Knowledge and Experience).  Students will show proof of (and revising if necessary) the key elements we are striving to use in our writing: 

Figurative Language (focus on simile and metaphor)

Dialogue

Imagery/5 Senses

Sharing Feelings/Emotions

Homework due Monday-  Paragraph 4 (The climax) and Conclusion Paragraph of the FEAR essay (mentioned above).  NO EXCUSES!

Coming next week-  Students will be quizzed on what belongs in the different parts of the Yellow Hamburger (Writing From Knowledge and Experience).  Start studying now!

7th Grade:

Students finished reading Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rudyard Kipling this week.  We have been working through story analysis with a focus on suspense and foreshadowing in this text. 

We have also been discussing the Persuasive Writing Rubric (Six Traits) and making evaluations about sample essays to understand what is needed for a top score.

HOMEWORK:  Study for the Rikki-Tikki-Tavi Test this Monday 1-23-12.  All students were given a study guide to work with over the weekend.  Students may also use the online text, the Vocabulary Practice Worksheet, and the Reading Check Questions we covered in class to help them study.
