Congratulations to Mrs. Abdulla’s first grade for earning a pizza party in Foreign Language.  We celebrated last Friday and had so much fun.

Dear students and Families,

Welcome back,

I hope you all had a restful break.

For the week of Jan. 3rd and Jan. 10th these are our Foreign Language objectives.

Kindergartners will be studying two new letters per 2 weeks instead of only one.  For the upcoming weeks we will be working on the letters (Ha and Kha).  The other focus is animals, we are learning about different animals.

First grade:

We started a new lesson.  The language focus is the letter (sa).  We did long and shot sounds with this letter.  We also learned some new words about these letters.  We are also talking about different jobs in our communities.  The lesson focuses on a fisherman’s job.

Second Grade:

We also started a new lesson.  It is a tricky one.  It is about the letter (ta).  In Arabic the (ta) letter has  more than one shape.  It also comes silent in some words.  It becomes confusing at times.  We will be taking our time in this lesson.

Finally, tomorrow is a late start, sleep in and enjoy.

We started working on the water cycle.  The 2nd graders are learning about the water cycle  in their classrooms.  We are doing the same in the F.L. classroom.  Today we started with the high frequency words.  We also played a game by acting a part of the water cycle and the class had to figure out in Arabic what part we are acting.  Next week students will be bringing home a water cycle booklet.  This booklet can stay at home.  Please ask students to read you this booklet.

We started our new unit about different jobs in our community.  This unit will takes us all the way to December, right before the break. 

Today we read a story about a fisherman.  The focus was on the Letter “Baa”.  I also had a discussion with my students about the different jobs that their parents hold.  At home it would be helpful if you ask your child to give you words with the letter “Baa”.  You can challenge them and ask them to give you words that have the letter “ba” in the beginning, middle or end of a word.  Next week we will focus on a different proffesion and study the letter “ba” with long and short sounds.

“Tha” booklets will be sent home this week.  Please take the time to read with your child those books.  Ask them to find you this letter in their books.  Ask them to give you words that have the “Tha” letter in them.

We are also memorizing our colors song.

No school on November 2nd.  Don’t forget to vote.

No kindergarten November 3rd and late start for all the other students.
